BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2008 - 6:00 P.M.

GUESTS PRESENT: Charlotte Nolan from Family Crisis Services, Richard & Daphne
    Meyer from Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA), Tom Bartell from People’s
    Regional Opportunity Program (PROP)


NEW BUSINESS:

The following representatives from various service organizations spoke to the committee and board members regarding the services that their organizations provide to the Sebago community and the justifications for their request for funds from the town.  They also answered questions from the Budget Committee members and Board of Selectmen as requested.

Charlotte Nolan, Outreach Advocate for Family Crisis Services – Requesting $1,275.00
 (Town allocated $1,275.00 last year.)

Richard & Daphne Meyers – Volunteer Advocates for Southern Maine Agency on Aging
  (SMAA) – Requesting $4,000.00 (Town allocated $2,000.00 last year.)

Tom Bartell – Vice President of People’s Regional Opportunity Program (PROP) –   
  Requesting $6,500.00 (Town allocated $5,500.00 last year.)

Christopher C. Hamilton – Development Director for The Life Flight Foundation –
  Requesting $1,000.00 (Town allocated $1000.00 last year.)

** NOTE: Robert Nicholson reviewed the request from The Life Flight Foundation as
                  per his phone conversation with Christopher Hamilton who was unable to
                  make it to the meeting this evening.
** NOTE: Charity Hirst – Home Health Visiting Nurses – Called while enroute to this
                  evening’s meeting and requested that she be rescheduled to the next meeting
                  due to the bad weather she was encountering.


MISCELLANEOUS DISCUSSIONS

Discussion ensued regarding the non-governmental service organizations that are scheduled to attend the next meeting.        

Some discussion also ensued regarding the services provided by Woodfords Family Services.  They are requesting funding of $500.00, and were allocated $200.00 last year.  Although they were not represented this evening, it was suggested that this organization should be considered for funding since they do provide a valuable service to several families in the Sebago area.  

There was some discussion on miscellaneous subjects such as road conditions, budgeting processes in general, and the Tenant Users Liability Insurance Program (TULIP) which may be something that can be used in order to off-set the insurance costs of the Sebago Days Event.  Mr. Nicholson explained how this program works, and that he is looking into the matter.

There was also some discussion on the condition of the budget for the State of Maine and how it is affecting these non-governmental service provider organizations.    

No further issues were brought up for discussion.

Greg Smith made a motion to adjourn.  It was seconded by Don Olden Sr.  Motion carried with all in favor.
