2010/11/21 Minutes
Sebago Fire and Rescue Building Task Force

Minutes from Meeting of November 21, 2010

Meeting opened at 5:01 pm.

In attendance were Jim Smith, Phil Strike, Anita Chadbourne,  Ann Farley, and Allen Crabtree.

Absent were Alan Greene, Tim Smith, and Carl Dolloff

1.      Site Selection – Jim described the area at the Shaw/Crowe pit that had been flagged off and reported on his conversations with Tom Beagle (sp?) from Shaw Brothers.  They are thinking about a lot with 200 feet of frontage on Route 114 and a dog-leg behind existing lots to achieve a 3-acre total.  Jim said that Bruce Hart is working on a property cost estimate.  Jim also said that he and Dan visited the town property off Folly Road to dig some pits to see where the water table might be.

Assignment – Jim will follow up with Bruce for numbers.

2.      Participation by Standish –  Jim had a conference all with Standish Town Manager Gordon Billington and Standish Fire Chief Brent Libby.  Brent is OK with the Crowe pit site for a new station.  Standish is thinking about putting a 1,000 gallon engine into the new station.  A long term agreement is needed to cover maintenance and replacement.  Gordon said such an agreement would be long term, over perhaps 15 – 20 years.

Phil commented that a 1,000 gallon engine would not cover our (Sebago and Standish) needs for a 3,000 gallon tanker.  We can’t accept less than what we need.

Assignment – A meeting with the Standish Chief, TM and budget committee/council will be scheduled in the near future to discuss this.

3.      Building Design – Rich Day of PATCO (Sale Project Manager, 324-5574) made a presentation to the Task Force.  He discussed different options and said that the price for construction would depend on the relative costs when we move ahead of steel vs. wood.  PATCO can do either type of construction, and can make either about the same in insulation/energy ratings.  The costs to complete the office space compared to the entire building cost would be minimal.  Dave Cook of Cook Brothers has told Jim they are not interested in competing for the building.

Next meeting of the task force is on Wednesday, December 15, at 7pm at the Standish town offices.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
