Sebago Fire and Rescue Building Task Force
Minutes from Meeting of March 14, 2011
Meeting opened at 7:05 pm at Station 1.
In attendance were Task Force members Jim Smith, Carl Dolloff, Phil Strike, Anita Chadbourne and Allen Crabtree. Absent were Alan Greene, Tim Smith and Ann Farley. Guests present were Architect Jeff Fleming, Fire Chief Ken Littlefield and Fire Department officers.
1. Site Selection – Jim explained the current status of the building site on Shaw Brothers land. Jeff showed several potential layouts of the lot with building placement on the lot.
2. Building – There was discussion about the features for the building. The officers endorsed radiant heating for the equipment bays. The option of a hybrid system with some other form of heating for the offices was discussed and will be considered.
The officers felt that drive-in bays vs. drive-through bays were preferred, both as an energy saving feature and so that the rear wall can be used for equipment/gear storage.
There was a lively discussion about the internal features and the overall size of the building. Jeff said that he needed more information in order to develop conceptual drawings, including the number and size of apparatus, room layout and features needed.
Assignments –Anita will give Jeff a tour of the rescue building to show him the features there.
Carl will give Jeff a tour of the fire stations to do the same, and will also arrange a visit to the Standish Central Station to look at their break room/kitchen/bunk room layout.
Ken volunteered to develop a list of all fire apparatus and their dimensions and get it to Jeff.
Next meeting of the task force will be held with Jeff Fleming to discuss building concepts on Thursday, March 31 at 6pm at the Sebago Town Offices. Meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
