IX New Business
C. Fire Station 1 Addition
Fire Chief, Kenneth Littlefield stated that the Fire Department is willing to build the addition. They have someone who is willing to volunteer their time and to dig the hole. The septic plan is done, and they have people who can put it in. The department feels they can reduce cost by doing most of the work themselves. Bob Irish Jr inquired if the department had someone qualified that could act as a general contractor. Ken stated yes. Allen Crabtree stated that there should be 1) good fiscal tracking with monthly reports, and that the building meets code and 2) that the Fire House Committee have a role in overseeing the project and report back to the Board. It was also suggested that the Town Manager monitor all purchases for the project. Allen Crabtree stated that in the Fire Station building maintenance
budget there are funds for a new furnace. It is his hopes that this may be part of the addition process. Bob Irish Jr. made a motion to have the addition for Station 1 go out to bid and have the Town Manager and Fire Chief come up with numbers for their proposal and have this issue return in two weeks. It was seconded by Dave McCarthy. Motion carried with Ruth Douglas, Dave McCarthy and Bob Irish Jr. in favor. Allen Crabtree abstained.
