The Portland Water District has served as a steward of the Sebago Lake water supply for over a century. We are following the Tar Sands issue and educating ourselves on the topic. A committee of the Board of Trustees is holding a series of educational workshops on the issue, inviting both proponents and opponents to separate meetings.
There has not yet been a proposal to transport tar sands oil through the watershed. If one is proposed, we will be part of the discussion to advocate for the safest practices and to ensure all environmental implications are considered.
