Town of Sebago
Skaters Needed!
Thanks to the stretch of cold weather we’ve had this last week, the new Sebago seasonal ice skating rink is now open and ready for skaters to use this winter.  The rink is located behind the ballparks, near the Sebago Youth Athletic Association (SYAA) snack shack, and is open to anyone who would like to take advantage of our wonderful Maine winter season.

The Sebago Department of Public Works and the Sebago Recreation Department collaborated to build the approximately 40-x 100-foot skating rink, using a huge piece of plastic complements of Tim Mayberry and a wood frame that the Public Works crew made.  Once the frame and plastic were in place, it was filled with water from one of the Sebago Fire Department trucks.  It only took a few cold days and the rink is now frozen solid and ready to go!

When I checked on the rink Sunday afternoon there were skate marks on the ice, so people have started using it.  Once the word gets out, this should be a popular place this winter.  Benches are planned for skaters to use, and the Public Works department will keep the parking lot cleared of snow this winter for parking.  Keeping the ice clear of snow, however, will be up to those who use it, so keep that in mind if you plan on skating there this winter after a snowstorm.
